Project Goals
The primary aim of this project was to replace the existing large conservatory with a modern rear extension, creating a comfortable family room for relaxation and entertainment. Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the design needed to balance contemporary aesthetics with the traditional character of the old farm-style house. Key goals included:
- Creating a Family Room: Design a warm, inviting space for movies, gatherings, and entertainment.
- Enhancing Layout: Improve the connection between the kitchen and the new family room while reconfiguring the service area and WC for better functionality.
- Respecting the Setting: Deliver a modern design that complements the existing home and highlights the scenic garden and countryside views.
Design Solutions
- Modern Rear Extension
To meet the clients’ needs, we replaced the outdated conservatory with a sleek, modern rear extension. This new structure features expansive glass panels, maximizing natural light and framing beautiful views of the surrounding garden. The proposed design allows the rear extension to stand as a distinct feature while maintaining harmony with the traditional architecture of the house.
- Improved Interior Layout
We reconfigured the layout to establish a seamless connection between the kitchen and the new family room. The updated design enhances the functionality whilst improving the overall flow of the home.
- A Harmonious Blend of Styles
Balancing modern and traditional elements was a key challenge. The extension’s clean lines and minimalist design were intentionally chosen to complement the rustic character of the house without competing with it.
Outcome
The completed project successfully transforms the home with a modern, comfortable family room that embraces its stunning natural surroundings. The large glass areas create a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces, providing a serene and functional retreat for the family.
