Project Goals
This project aimed to create a functional and accessible living space for a disabled client by extending and redesigning the rear of their property. Using Permitted Development Rights, we extended the kitchen and designed an open-plan kitchen and dining area. Despite being a smaller project, the design highlights our ability to tailor solutions to meet specific client needs. Key goals included:
- Enhancing Accessibility: Ensure the kitchen and dining area were fully accessible and easy to navigate.
- Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Connection: Improve access to the garden with an inclusive design.
Design Solutions
- Rear Extension
The rear of the property was extended to create additional space for the open-plan layout. The design prioritized natural light (big openings and rooflights), clear navigation, and accessibility features such as wide doorways. - Garden Access
A level threshold patio door provided smooth access to the garden, while outdoor adjustments ensured safety and functionality.
Outcome
The project successfully delivered a modern, light-filled, and accessible space tailored to the client’s needs. The thoughtful design of the kitchen and seamless garden access demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity and practicality. This project underscores our belief that even small-scale designs can have a significant impact when approached with care and attention to detail.
