Project Goals
The primary objective of this project was to redesign the ground floor of a locally listed property situated within the Harpenden conservation area. Our client sought a comprehensive redesign to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of their home while respecting its historical and architectural significance. Innovative solutions were used to remodel the house to meet the needs of a growing family.
Design Solutions
- Single-Storey Rear Extension
To meet the client’s desire for a spacious, family-oriented kitchen and dining area, we proposed a single-storey rear extension. This extension is designed to seamlessly blend with the existing structure while providing the necessary additional space.
- Internal Layout Configuration
To improve the flow and usability of the ground floor, we reconfigured the internal layout. Incorporating an open plan design, secondary access to the house, and creating of functional areas.
- Side Entrance and Utility Area
The client requested the addition of a side entrance to improve accessibility and functionality. This new feature includes a spacious entrance hall, a designated utility area, and a cloakroom space.
Outcome
The completed renovation has successfully transformed the ground floor of this locally listed property into a modern, functional, and family-friendly space. The single-storey rear extension provides a spacious kitchen and dining area that meets the client’s needs for a communal gathering space. The new side entrance, utility area, and WC add practical value while enhancing the home’s overall functionality. The design respects the property’s historical significance and blends seamlessly with its existing character, offering a harmonious balance between modern living and heritage preservation.
